Chatham-Kent’s Gay Pride Association is preparing for a week-long celebration of love and inclusion.
A flag raising ceremony is being held over the noon-hour.
A statement was released yesterday on behalf of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Chatham-Kent Police, EMS, Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services, and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, providing a united front against transphobia and homophobia.
“As we prepare for Pride Week in Chatham-Kent, we join CK Pride Association in celebrating 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Recognizing our role as public organizations, we understand the importance of fostering inclusive spaces that honour the lived experiences, histories, and perspectives of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities,” the statement reads. “We firmly believe that when individuals and families are treated with respect, provided with a sense of safety, and given opportunities to contribute authentically to their workplaces and communities, they thrive. Together, we strive for a more inclusive and accepting society.”
Tomorrow, the Pride parade makes its way from the Civic Centre to the Sons of Kent on Adelaide Street, followed by the family-friendly Pride Fest at the brewery from noon until 3pm.
A full slate of events is scheduled next week, including Rainbow Storytime at the Chatham branch of the public library, an online trivia night, BBQ and bake sale at LINCK children and family services, and a Pride Dance at the Moose Lodge next Saturday night.
