As residents brace for more flooding along the Thames River today, student transportation officials have cancelled school buses within the Thamesville area.

That includes all buses heading through Thamesville to CKSS, Lambton Kent Composite School, Ridgetown District High School, and Ursuline College.

As well, Thamesville Area Central School and Good Shepherd Catholic School will be closed for both student and staff for the day.

According to the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, the Thames is expected to peak in Thamesville and Chatham later this evening through tomorrow morning.

Based on past flooding events, officials say water levels at the center of the community can be expected to be between 0.3 m and 0.5 m deep, somewhere between what was experienced in 2008/2009 and the 1977 flood.

High water levels can be expected throughout the Lower Thames into early next week.

Meantime, along the Sydenham, water levels are slowly receding after extensive rain and snowmelt earlier in the week.

Officials with the St Clair Region Conservation Authority are continuing to monitor ice conditions, and the McKeough Dam remains closed to reduce potential flooding in Wallaceburg.
