Local conservation officials are keeping close tabs on area waterways.

The St Clair Region Conservation Authority issued an advisory this morning with as much as 45mm of rain expected today and tomorrow.

A Colorado low is moving across Ontario and while total rainfall amounts vary depending on location, officials say it could lead to increased runoff and flash flooding, particularly in urban areas.

Saturated ground could lead to ponding, increased runoff into rivers and streams, and possible increased erosion and seepage issues. Rising water levels may spill into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields.

Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
