With high winds whipping across the region over the next few days, followed by heavy rain, the Lake Erie shoreline is expected to take a beating.
Jason Wintermute with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority says the conditions will be similar to last year that caused flooding along Erie Shore Drive.
“Things happen over the winter where ice covers in and the shoreline can change a little bit. We can’t say for sure exactly how it’ll play out, the forecasts are unpredictable and tings like that, but base don what we saw last year, we can expect to see flooding along Erie Shore Drive again tomorrow morning,” says Wintermute.
Residents are asked to avoid the shoreline if possible, and homeowners along the lake should secure any loose items on their property.
“People [were] having waves directly crash against the back of their homes when this was happening last year, as well as debris getting thrown up from the waves onto their property. If it starts to get rough out there and we see the same things we saw last year, you definitely want to secure those things along the shoreline and avoid the area as much as possible,” Wintermute says.
