Food banks continue to see an increasing and ever changing need in Chatham-Kent.
Executive Director of Outreach for Hunger, Brenda LeClair says they see about 35 to 40 new families coming to them every month.
“We can do 350 to 400 families a month, there are always going to be those folks who are just stuck in that situation for whatever reasons, no fault of their own,” LeClair says. “With the high cost of utility bills right now, we’re finding that hydro and other utility bills are really causing a problem.”
LeClair says summers tend to be especially hard on families with younger kids when school breakfast and snack programs are no longer available to help fill the void.
However, she never ceases to be amazed by the giving attitude of the community that always steps up to help those in need.
