A local food bank is hoping to ensure kids don’t feel left out when it comes to birthdays.
Outreach for Hunger executive director Brenda LeClair says they’ve been collecting birthday bags from local groups and service clubs.
“We put these bags together and what they have in them is a cake mix, a cake pan, birthday candles and card and a little gift and whatever else we think they might need to make a birthday special,” says LeClair. “So when somebody comes in and we pull up their file and we see that somebody in the home is going to have a birthday, or they mention that they are going to a birthday party, then we have something to give them that’s age appropriate. And that makes all the difference in the world.”
LeClair says the ability to provide presents for your kids on their birthday, or sending your kids to a birthday party is something we often take for granted.
