Spaces are full for a pressure canning workshop this morning.
Organized by Andrew Tompsett of Canadian Maker, the workshop is going over how to preserve fully-cooked meals.
He says this isn’t a new technique.
“Pressure canning is sort of a lost art that I’m hoping to bring back. It used to be done by almost every household back in the ’50s and ’60s. It was very common to have a whole pantry of canned preserved meals”, explains Tompsett.
He says that with Chatham-Kent’s agriculture industry, we’re in a great place to access locally-grown produce that can be canned and preserved and enjoyed year-round.
While today’s workshop is full, he says he may be doing more across Chatham-Kent in 2018.
