Premier Doug Ford is taking drug maker Pfizer to task.
The drug maker announced last week there would be a slowdown in its ability to deliver what was promised in the number of COVID-19 vaccines.
Now Ford says the feds are telling them there will be no delivery at all next week.
“The news from the federal government that Canada won’t get any new Pfizer vaccines next week, and far fewer than expected in the coming weeks, it’s troubling, it’s a massive concern,” Ford says. “My message to the federal government is that nothing else matters right now, every day we’re giving out less vaccines than we have the capacity to deliver is a day we lose.”
Ford says Ontario is in desperate need of those vaccines, and pleaded with Pfizer, Prime Minister Trudeau, and even US President-elect Joe Biden to do more to help Ontario’s most vulnerable.
Ford also had praise for the task force delivering the shots in this province.
“This vaccine is the difference between life and death for our most vulnerable. But despite limits on the supply here Ontario, we have made incredible progress in the span of four short weeks. We’re emptying the freezers on what we’ve received so far, we’re getting needles into people’s arms, and we’re focusing on our most vulnerable.”
So far the province has administered over 83,000 doses, and 25,000 Ontario residents have received both injections.
