Charges have been laid after a man’s cell phone was stolen after he mistakenly left it at a Chatham restaurant.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said the victim left his phone behind at a Park Avenue East restaurant on Sunday, but quickly returned to retrieve it. However, when he went back, he noticed several individuals leaving the area, and he was unable to locate the device.
Police were contacted just before 2 p.m. and, after reviewing surveillance footage, were able to identify a suspect.
A 32-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was later located on Park Avenue East and arrested. She is now charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
She was later released from custody and will answer the charges in court at a later date.
