A lucky former resident of McKay’s Corners has been announced as the grand prize winner of a 50/50 draw supporting Chatham-Kent’s hospital.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHAF) drew the winning ticket for the Igniting Healthcare Spring 50/50 on Friday, which belonged to Jason Howes of St. Thomas. The father of three purchased 1,500 ticket numbers, including the winning number CK-7052050.
Howes will take home a $74,690 jackpot with the other half of the proceeds going towards the highest priority needs at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, such as life-changing equipment and facility upgrades.
Howes said he was speechless when he found out that he had won.
“I grew up in Chatham-Kent and just moved to St. Thomas last year for work, so I’ve always bought tickets for these 50/50s as a way to support this hospital that’s been so good to me and to my family,” he said in a news release. “I never really thought that there was a chance that I would actually win.”
Howes said he plans to buy a brand-new smoker and finish his pilot’s license with his winnings.
