An arrest has been made after a Lakeshore resident was bilked out of thousands of dollars in a romance scam.
The Ontario Provincial Police said officers began an investigation began in February after receiving a complaint from an individual who had been defrauded out of around $18,500.
The victim informed police they had began a relationship that included intimate activities. The victim’s partner then claimed to be pregnant and demanded money for medical expenses.
As a result, of the investigation, a 26-year-old Windsor woman was eventually arrested and is now charged with fraud over $5,000. She will answer the charge is court at a later date.
The investigation remains ongoing and authorities believe there may be other victims of this scam. Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
