March is fraud prevention month, and police want to make sure you’re protected.
Police are warning of a fraudsters impersonating Canada Revenue Agency officials.
In the phone scam, the caller demands repayment of taxes and that failure could result in jail time or fees.
Payment terms range from money transfers through companies like Western Union prepaid credit or gift cards, i-Tunes cards or bitcoins.
The other scam involves the reverse, a refund coming to the victim, this time, personal information is requested; SIN, birthday and banking.
All of that runs counter to what the CRA would do, or require and police advise people to hang up or delete emails and texts.
