Free Fishing Offered To Celebrate Canada Day

Families, fishing enthusiasts and first-time anglers are being encouraged to get out on the water this Canada Day.

To celebrate the national holiday, the Ontario government has announced that residents will be able to fish for free all week from July 1-9.

“To help families celebrate Canada Day, we’re making it easier to get out on the water and experience the world-class fishing opportunities that exist in Ontario,” said Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry Graydon Smith in a news release. “Fishing is a fun and affordable way for families to enjoy quality time while connecting with nature.”

Those taking advantage of the free fishing period should be sure to follow all conservation license catch limits and carry ID issued by the provincial or federal government.

Outside of free fishing periods, most Canadians 18 and older but under 65 must have an Outdoors Card and a fishing licence to fish in Ontario.
