A new program is helping to support those impacted by gender-based violence.
The John Howard Society of Windsor-Essex County has launched a free support initiative called the Supportive Approach to Finding Empowerment, or SAFE program, for those aged 16 and older in Chatham, Windsor, and the surrounding area.
Officials say the SAFE program offers a comprehensive range of services, including workshops held both on-site and at partnering community locations, as well as long-term case management to help participants navigate resources and achieve personal stability.
The program includes in-depth financial independence and literacy education, as well as skills-building opportunities focused on communication, boundary-setting, and healthy relationship development.
“Our goal is to create a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where survivors can access the resources they need to heal and thrive,” said Devon Reeb, Program Lead. “By partnering with community organizations, we’re ensuring that these services are accessible to anyone who needs them.”
Enrollment for the Gender-Based Violence Support Program is now open. Officials say all services are free of charge, confidential, and inclusive of all genders, backgrounds, and identities.
