For one family living off tanked water since their well went bad last summer, their worst fears have been realized.

The recent cold snap has completely frozen the Brooks family’s water supply, which has been provided by North Kent Wind and Pattern Energy.

Homeowner Jessica Brooks says their problems with the metal water tank started early in December.

“This froze over a little bit, just at the outtake, at the beginning of December, and when I contacted both the Ministry of Environment and Pattern Energy, nobody got back to me but we got it moving again ourselves,” Brooks says.

The family went to their cottage over Christmas, but came home to find the water tank frozen solid. “If they decide to pull the tank because it’s not going to work,” Brooks says, “I have no source of water for the winter.”

The family, including three children and Brooks’ mother, live at the Brook Line home.

The tank was re-filled with fresh, unfrozen water yesterday, but Brooks says she doesn’t  know what the plans is moving forward to keep their water running.

Brooks says the water supply company has a number of options in mind, but needs the go-ahead from Pattern Energy first.

According to Water Wells First, of the 12 families currently living on water tanks because of well issues, five have experienced issues with freezing so far this winter.
