One day after revealing its back to school plan, the Ontario government has unveiled more funding.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce says 25-million dollars will help with air quality in schools across the province.

The money is earmarked for standalone HEPA filter units, now required in all classrooms in schools that don’t have mechanical ventilation.

“We are following the best expert advice by ensuring all schools have improved air ventilation to help ensure schools remain as safe as possible,” Lecce says. “With the work we have done, I am confident we will keep students and staff safe in our schools as we reopen for the 2021-22 school year.”

Roughly 20,000 standalone HEPA filter units will be deployed to school boards where needed. Remaining funding will be allocated to school boards to procure additional standalone HEPA filter units.

No word yet on how many, if any, of the units will be put to use in Chatham-Kent schools.
