The local community is being asked to do its part to help fund the redevelopment of Wallaceburg’s hospital.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHAF) launched its $9 million Our Hospital, Our Future Wallaceburg Redevelopment campaign at an event at CKHA’s Wallaceburg site on Thursday. During the event, CKHA officials unveiled all-new architectural renderings, floor plans, and design updates for the 20,000-square-foot add-on to the hospital.
“This is the point where we really rally donors and community members to step up and make those gift commitments,” said foundation President and CEO Christine Mitchell. “Now we have renderings to show them. Now we have actual visuals to really inspire that next step.”
Once construction has been completed, the facility will include a 24-hour Emergency Department, six inpatient beds with one for palliative care, ambulatory care, diagnostic imaging, respiratory therapy, physiotherapy, and lab services.
“We’re doing a really strong marketing campaign just to educate people on what this new building is going to be and how it’s going to benefit this community and how it is here to stay,” said Mitchell.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has already made a $4.5 million pledge toward the project, along with the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary, which pledged $100,000 toward the redevelopment in early 2024.
Hospital officials said the redevelopment could break ground as early as the summer of 2026, but it could take up to two years depending on the provincial approval process. The hospital will be submitting the project’s detailed drawings and schematics to the provincial government for approval. Once approved, the redevelopment will move to the tender process.
