Funeral Home Calls Out Phoney Obit

A new low for scam artists.

McKinlay Funeral Home is warning of a fake obituary making the rounds online, asking for donations for a one-year-old boy who the website claims passed away in Chatham late last month.

Officials at the funeral home say they’ve been contacted by a number of people who’ve been asked for money through the site everhere.com, but there is no funeral scheduled for anyone by that name.

In a statement online, McKinlay Funeral Home says “We have never been contacted by the family. This is a SCAM. Never trust an obituary on Everhere.com! All obituaries on Everhere.com are assembled without the consent of the family, are not vetted and their only real purpose is to sell flowers, trees and memory items.”
