A spin on a popular naming contest is coming to Chatham-Kent in the spring.

Mayor Darrin Canniff said the municipality plans to launch a competition to name Chatham-Kent’s fleet of seven garbage trucks. He said it will be a unique take on the municipality’s snowplow naming contest, which has run annually in the winter for the past three years.

“If we name the snowplows, why not name the garbage trucks,” Canniff said.

The mayor added that voting will likely take place online and he’s encouraging everyone in the community to take part.

“It’s going to be a hot commodity to get the name on there, but we’re looking forward to the hundreds of names we’re going to come up with for the garbage trucks,” said Canniff.

More information on the garbage truck naming contest will likely be released in the coming months.
