Work is ongoing in downtown Wheatley as investigators try to learn more about the gas wells that caused the August 26 explosion.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said that on Monday contractors began coring the gas well nearest to the site of the explosion in an effort to more about its construction and depth.
As of Tuesday afternoon, no gas had been detected during the process.
Once the investigation is complete, crews will begin the remediation process to cap the well.
Residents in the area should expect to see more activity and heavy equipment in the area throughout the week.
Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services recently ended the emergency phase in Wheatley after safety advisors reviewed the situation and determined the continuous presence of firefighters was no longer needed.
