More information has come up on one of the wells in Wheatley following the ongoing investigation on the August 26 explosion.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent says initial work on the well indicated that it has a depth of approximately 100 feet and was likely constructed as a source of water.

Additional equipment has arrived on-site and work crews are starting the process of driving a large conductor pipe over the existing APEC 1 well.

Remediation is set to begin once pipe-driving is completed and it’s estimated that both will be done in the next two to three weeks.

No gas has been detected so far throughout the process but the team will sample for analysis if any changes arise.

10 of the 34 homeowners who were evacuated after the explosion have returned home with another expected soon.
