Chatham’s casino remains quiet today as the investigation continues into a cyber security incident.
The Cascades Casino and other Gateway Casinos and Entertainment properties across Ontario were shut down April 16th following what is now being described as a ransomware attack. An official statement from the company says they are still unable to confirm a reopening date as work continues to restore IT systems.
“Our utmost concern remains the protection of personal information,” a statement on the casino’s Facebok page reads. “While we have no evidence thus far that personal information of our customers or employees has been impacted, we have experienced a ransomware attack on our IT systems. Unfortunately, cyber criminals often attempt to compromise personal information.”
The company is working with third party experts continues to determine if there has been any impact on personal information, and privacy officials, law enforcement, and government regulators have all been made aware of the cyber incident.
