It’s the status quo for sidewalk snow removal.
At the Tilbury council meeting council decided that snow plowing would be done across the municipality’s 410 kilometres of sidewalks, and salting in the downtown cores.
That’s how it was done last winter. Councillor Doug Sulman says home and business owners would have to salt outside the cores within 48 hours of an ice or snow event.
“I think the people in our community are responsible enough to go out and walk 20 feet and throw a little salt,” Sulman says. “And they may never have to do it because we live in the Banana Belt and it probably melts within 48 hours.”
The province changed the minimum standard requirements ahead of last winter, require the salting.
