A Wallaceburg eatery has been presented a financial reward from Desjardins Insurance.
The company is sponsoring the GoodSpark Small Business Grants program designed to help local businesses overcome challenges caused by the pandemic.
Black Goose owner Mark Childs is being given a check for $10,000 dollars from local Desjardins agent, Kim Murray.
“I submitted applications for about four or five businesses,” Murray says. “You have to write a story about why they deserve it, how they’ve been affected by COVID, what they’ve done in the community. The Childs family and the Black Goose was one of my submissions and they were chosen.”
Murray says considering all that Mark Childs and his team have been doing to give back to the Wallaceburg area over the years, it was a no-brainer.
“The story behind the Black Goose with the involvement with the soup kitchen, their involvement with the Salvation Army dinners, and the fact they met the criteria,” Murray explains. “It had to be a small business, less than 30 employees, affected negatively by COVID.”
Desjardins Insurance is handing out 75 of these grants across Canada to various types of businesses, ranging from restaurants and retail stores to dance studios and hair and nail salons.
