A new craft brewery is preparing to open its doors in downtown Wallaceburg.

The Glasstown Brewing Company on James Street will hold its grand opening on Saturday, May 20 after nearly a year of construction and anticipation.

While reservations are fully booked for opening day, Operations Manager Christina McFadden said there will be some space for walk-ins.

“We plan to open the restaurant at 11 a.m. [Then] at 1 p.m. we are doing a ceremony with the Legion where they are going to march with a bagpipe across the bridge and that will be our opening ceremony,” she said.

Head brewer David Draper said there will be six or seven craft beers available to try during the opening weekend.

“We’re just calling them by their brand style,” he said. “We have the pale ale, the stout, the sour IPA, the juicy IPA… the double IPA is coming… we’ve partnered up with Parks Blueberries and we’re doing a blueberry sour this week, and we’re trying to squeeze one more in for the opening.”

The James Street business will include a taproom, café and bistro, and a patio backing onto the Sydenham River. Future plans also include rental suites upstairs and an event venue.
