Provincial police in Chatham-Kent are commending a Good Samaritan for helping to locate an elderly man who had been reported missing from the Southern Georgian Bay area.

The Ontario Provincial Police said a member of the public stopped to assist the driver of a vehicle after it had broken down in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Communication Road, shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday.

While speaking to the 82-year-old driver, the individual determined the motorist needed additional assistance and called police.

Investigating officers eventually learned that the driver was from Waubaushene and had been reported missing by family earlier that day.

The missing man was assessed at the scene before being taken to hospital as a precaution.

The OPP is thanking the Good Samaritan for helping to return the man to his family.
