Good Samaritan Reports Suspected Impaired Driver On 401

Police are thanking a Good Samaritan who helped to take an alleged drunk driver off the road in Chatham-Kent.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers were contacted by a concerned citizen Saturday evening, who reported a possible impaired driver on Highway 401. An officer located and stopped the vehicle in the westbound lanes near Communication Road at around 7:45 p.m.

Authorities said the driver appeared intoxicated and failed roadside sobriety test. The driver was then arrested and taken to police headquarters for further tests.

As a result, a 49-year-old Guelph resident is now charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and driving without a required ignition interlock device.  The accused was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and their vehicle will be impounded for seven days. They will answer the charges in court later this month.
