Another mass teachers’ rally is being planned for Queen’s Park tomorrow.

As many as 15,000 teachers are expected on the lawn of the provincial legislature as contract disputes with the province drag on.

Yesterday, Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced some concessions from the government, including reducing the average class sizes to 23, just one over last year’s level, and offering an opt-out for e-learning in high school.

However, it doesn’t appear to have appeased the unions. The OSSTF referred to the Minister’s news conference as ‘amateur hour’ with no actual offer at the bargaining table, and says the change of class sizes still means the loss of over 1000 teachers and hundreds of education workers.

Public high school teachers are holding one-day strikes this week, however the Lambton-Kent District School Board isn’t affected.

OECTA, which represents English Catholic teachers, is going ahead with plans for a province-wide strike tomorrow.

AEFO, representing Ontario’s Franco teachers will also be hitting the picket lines.
