Today is World Polio Day, and members of Rotary Clubs around the world are raising money today to try to eradicate polio across the globe.
Over half a dozen pizza places in Chatham-Kent are donating a portion of their sales to the cause today.
Rotary spokesperson Alysson Storey says along with helping to fight polio, the event is good for Chatham-Kent’s economy.
“We know it’s been a challenging year for restaurants everywhere, so if we can get an extra bit of business to those eight great local restaurants, we’re even more thrilled to help them out on that front as well,” Storey says.
Over the last six years, the Chatham Rotary club has helped raise $250,000 to help fight polio.
“Usually that money is matched and doubled by both the Gates Foundation and Rotary International,” Storey says. “The vaccines cost about $3.00, so that means basically one slice of pizza saves one life.”
Konstantino’s, Andy’s Place, Steve’s Pizzeria, Original 2 Pizza, Boston Pizza, Pizza Tonite, Mike’s Place, and Pie-Zano’s are donating a portion of their proceeds on pizza orders that day to support the cause.
