Green Ribbon Campaign Kicks Off

April is ‘Be a Donor Month’ and the Chatham-Kent EMS, Police and Fire Services are teaming up once again for the annual Green Ribbon Campaign.

Constable Renee Cowell and her husband, fellow Police Constable Doug Cowell, started the campaign 16 years ago in memory of their young daughter Bailey who passed away following a heart transplant in 2001.

“Organ and tissue donation is very near and dear to my heart,” Cowell says. “It’s a warming feeling to see not only my colleagues wearing green ribbons, but members of the community as well.”

Despite the fact 85% of people say they support organ and tissue donation, only 33% of Ontarians are donors.
