A popular park north of Wallaceburg has closed its gates for good.
A statement from the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation says the difficult decision was made to close Greenhill Gardens in St Clair Township for the foreseeable future, due to unforeseen and ongoing challenges including vegetation management, infrastructure concerns, and limited staffing and resources.
Greenhill Gardens was acquired by the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation in 2022 through a donation by the Robson family. The property, located on the corner of Wilkesport Line and Indian Creek Line, features a 2.4-hectare garden, 7.7-hectare woodlot, and 30 hectares of agricultural land.
The Conservation Foundation began charging rental fees for special events and functions last year to help with the ongoing maintenance. However, officials say it has become increasingly difficult to maintain the property to the standards expected by the community and visitors.
