With more than two decades of community involvement under his belt, a Chatham man is hoping to inspire more people to give back.
Don “Sparky” Leonard recently took up the title of District Governor for Rotary District 6380, which includes the seven Chatham-Kent clubs and another 45 in Michigan.
“I think everybody is dealing with it I don’t want to state numbers for other organizations. But there are some that have simply closed up in certain communities so there are still those types of people that are out there. That can be a big part of a service organization for our community so at the end of the day it’s about taking care of the things in our community that we feel are most important,” said Leonard. “Our theme in Rotary this year is, ‘Rotary Connects the World’. The opportunity it allows me to reach out to all seven clubs currently in Chatham-Kent and connecting them and getting them to work together is a great opportunity. Plus I really believe in my heart by the end out the year we will see more than seven Rotary clubs in Chatham-Kent.”
Leonard says having a Chatham-Kent member in the District Governor role helps to increase the community’s profile on an international level.
