It’s a big day for a Chatham family.
Cassadi Pryor along with her nieces and nephews have been given the keys to their new home, thanks to Habitat for Humanity.
Pryor has had custody of the four kids for six years.
“The home that we lived in was the start of some of their nightmares,” Pryor says. “For them to have something that doesn’t have a sad or an emotional memory attached to it that they have to be faced with every day is nice for them, to see a new beginning with their own mojo in there, it’s what they want. An opportunity to have good dreams and good hopes.”
Pryor says the family was also heavily involved in the building process.
“You see the pictures put up, you see the fun times at the beginning of the day, but you don’t see the sweat. We put the shed up twice. In sub zero temps, not fun. But it was fun. Well the building wasn’t fun, but the people were epic! The numb fingers took away from that a bit, but if we didn’t have a great set of volunteers with us, it never would have gotten done. It was ten or eleven people getting together and getting a job done.”
It’s the organization’s 6 house build in Chatham-Kent.
Habitat families aren’t required to make a down-payment on their home, there’s no interest paid on the mortgage, and it’s geared to income.
