With builds in Blenheim, Charing Cross, Wallaceburg and Chatham under their belt, Habitat for Humanity is looking to a new community for the next build.

Executive Director Nancy McDowell says they’re heading back across the Thames River.

“Next year were going to be building in Pain Court, and we’re going to be just a stone’s throw from where the International Plowing Match is going to take place.”

McDowell says all of the pieces just sort of fell into place.

“It just so happened that we had received a donation of a piece of property in Pain Court, and then we had a family who qualified who wanted to live out there.”

Habitat families aren’t required to make a down-payment on their home, there’s no interest paid on the mortgage, and it’s geared to income.

The families are also heavily involved in the building process.

Work will start in the spring once the ground thaws.
