A recent fundraising event featuring designer handbags has raised over $38,000 in support of end-of-life care in Chatham-Kent.
The Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation hosted the fifth annual Handbags for Hospice event, welcoming a sold out crowd of 300 to the Everest Convention Centre on October 16.
The event featured twelve games of Bingo with designer handbags as prizes, a raffle table with prizes donated by local businesses and community members, and a Platinum Purse Draw for a Michael Kors weekender bag and accessories.
The event raised a record-high $38,150.
“We are so thankful to the planning committee and the community for their support of Handbags for Hospice,” said Brock McGregor, Executive Director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation in a news release. “These funds ensure our residents and their families receive compassionate care and grief support, at no cost to them.”
The funds will be used to cover operational costs at the Chatham-Kent Hospice, to ensure families have access to compassionate, end-of-life care at no cost.
Since its inception, Handbags for Hospice has raised more than $233,000.
Plans are already in the works for next year’s Handbags fundraisers with a spring event scheduled for April 16, 2026, and a fall fundraiser on October 15, 2026.
