An emotional day in Chatham as the team from Handy Brothers Climate Care handed back the keys to the Goulet family’s home.

An army of volunteers has spent the last week renovating the home after learning about the hardships of Ryan Goulet, who was diagnosed with ALS last spring.

Handy Bros president Mitch White says they wanted to get the work done as quickly as they could.

“Ryan needs it more and more every day, and so I wanted to get on it as soon as possible,” White says. “We worked extremely hard, around the clock, to get this done.”

The project included transforming a bedroom into a wheelchair-accessible washroom, converting another room into a new bedroom, widening doorways and halls, adding ramps both inside and out, and much more.

“It’s been a crazy whirlwind of a week,” White says, “but I love the way it all came together.”

Margie Goulet says the entire family is overwhelmed.

“We just want to thank everyone for being here and supporting us, everybody’s been so generous and thoughtful and caring and giving. Our hearts are full with all your love.”

All of the work was completed in a week, at no cost to the family.
