The plight of migrant workers is at the heart of a caravan making its way across southwestern Ontario this week.
The Harvesting Freedom protest made stops at the Wednesday Farmers Market and downtown Chatham yesterday, on its way to Ottawa to demand permanent immigration status for migrant agricultural workers.
A spokesperson for the group Justice for Migrant Workers says the lack of immigration status makes seasonal workers less able to assert their rights due to a fear of deportation.
