Household hazardous waste can be dropped off today at one of three public works garages in Chatham-Kent, free of charge Saturday.

It’s an annual event and this year from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. items can be dropped off at municipal public works garages in Chatham, Chatham Township and Tilbury.

Waste Connections Canada, the company that operates Ridge Landfill, pays for the HHWD.

Acceptable materials include pool chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, gasoline, paint, oil, batteries, propane cylinders (max. 30lbs) and biohazardous needles.

TVs, electronics, agricultural and industrial waste, and ammunition won’t be accepted.
