Health Care Rally Raises Issues at Queens Park

Local health care advocates joined thousands of others with a massive rally at Queen’s Park.

Shirley Roebuck, Chair of the three local Health Coalitions, says the rally was in response to potential cuts in the health care system by the provincial government.

She says the group caught the attention of some party leaders.

“All of the party leaders and all came, with the exception of (Premier) Doug Ford, he declined,” Roebuck says. “(NDP Leader) Andrea Horwath came and address the crowd as well as the interim leader of he Liberal Party and the leader of the Green Party, so we were quite happy.”

Roebuck says this is the first step in their fight to keep public health care in Ontario.

“This isn’t a fight we can with just one rally,” Roebuck explains. “We’re going to fight with other groups: community groups, seniors, unions representing health care workers, and health care advocates. We’re going to make sure we win this fight for public health care to remain the norm.”
