Officials say people should do what they can to keep cool, and keep an eye on vulnerable friends, family, or neighbours.

Heat-related illness can affect the elderly, very young, people with chronic illnesses, and even healthy people if they take part in strenuous activities and don’t take precautions.

A heat warning is issued when three or more consecutive days are forecast to have a daytime high temperature of 31°C or more or a Humidex greater than 42°C.
