Following a costly surgery, the owners of a retired four-legged police officer are asking the Chatham-Kent community for help.

Ned’s Wish, a society that supports law enforcement dogs, is holding an online fundraiser for Arry, a nine-year-old Belgian Malinois, that served with Chatham-Kent Police Service until his retirement in 2019.

“While working, Arry was a very accomplished police service dog, selflessly serving his community with passion and dedication,” the group said on its website.

Arry underwent surgery in 2019 prior to his retirement for a damaged cruciate ligament on his left knee due to the demands of his job with the police service. More recently, in December 2021, the former police dog underwent the same surgery to repair the stability of his other knee.

“Arry has a long way to a full recovery as he still has 12-16 weeks of rehabilitation to complete, however, his prognosis looks very good,” the group said.

Over the next three weeks, the Ned’s Wish fundraiser is looking to raise money to pay for the cost of the recent $4,000 procedure. All donations will go directly towards supporting Arry’s medical bills. If donations exceed $4,000, the money will be used to support other police service dogs registered with the group.
