The municipality is looking to ease some of the financial burden on Wheatley residents who’ve been evacuated from their homes.

Two months after an explosion rocked downtown Wheatley, the Lake Erie community still has a number of residents and businesses that are unable to return to their evacuated properties.

At tonight’s Chatham-Kent council meeting, council will discuss ways to help displaced Wheatley residents, including looking at waiving interest and penalties on property taxes within the evacuation zone.

Council will also discuss ways they can assist with financial recovery for properties within the evacuation zone.
