In the wake of a weekend fire, a number of local organizations are stepping up to help displaced residents.

Chatham-Kent Fire investigators are still looking into Sunday morning’s blaze at 99 McNaughton Avenue West continues.

Of the municipally-owned building’s 120 units, 90 were affected by the fire, including many seniors and people with disabilities.

Donations of clothing, hygiene products, and other essentials are being collected at Betty Brite Dry Cleaners on Keil Drive.

Pet and Wildlife Rescue has taken in a number of animals belonging to displaced residents and have also provided dog food, cat food, and litter to those in need.

The Chatham Lions Club also stepped in to help with emergency funding for basic needs, transporting affected residents to local hotels, and providing cell phone chargers to residents who may need one.

It’s unclear at this point how long it might be before residents will be able to get back into the building as the investigation continues.
