With 50 cases of Hepatitis C in Chatham-Kent in 2016, Steve Pratt says steps need to be taken.
Pratt is the Reduction Program Manager with AIDS Support Chatham-Kent.
50 cases is more than double the provincial rate and Pratt says one of the reasons is the geography of Chatham-Kent.
“The biggest challenge we face in Chatham-Kent is we have more space than we do people, getting access to the programs and services can be really difficult,” says Pratt. “That’s why we started a new partnership at a pharmacy in Wallaceburg. Through shoppers drug mart where folks can go and access our programs and services through their local pharmacy.”
Pratt says a new needle drop off box at 67 Adelaide in Chatham will help keep dirty needles out of public areas.
