Something to keep in mind if you’re planning on heading to one of Chatham-Kent’s beaches to cool off.

Between June and September, Chatham-Kent Public Health collects water samples from the seven municipally maintained beaches, testing for e-coli.

The latest results show high levels of bacteria at Bates Beach, Erieau Public Beach, Getty’s Beach, and Mitchell’s Bay.

However, officials say the results track long-term trends, and the decision to swim should be based on real-time conditions and not monthly test results.

Advisory signs urging caution are posted at all beaches where high levels of bacteria are found. Public Health will post closure signs if there is a significant risk to health and safety.
