High Water Levels Possible Due To Rain, Melting Snow

With rain and higher temperatures in the forecast this week, a local conservation authority is warning of possible rising water levels.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority issued a Watershed Conditions Statement on Tuesday due to warmer temperatures melting the existing snowpack. Up to 15 mm of rain and snow equivalent could also fall over the next five days.

The conservation authority said this could lead increased runoff, ponding, and an increase in water levels. Ice conditions are also anticipated to begin deteriorating and may break up in some locations.

Local residents should avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to potentially dangerous conditions, slippery banks, unstable ice conditions, and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should also be kept away from the water.
