With strong winds in the forecast, the local conservation authority is warning of possible rough conditions around the Lake Erie shoreline.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority said the forecast is calling for wind southeasterly winds, gusting up to 80 km/h from early Thursday morning into Thursday afternoon, bringing wave heights on Lake Erie of around 1.5-2 meters in nearshore areas with 2-3 meter waves on the open lake.
These high waves may cause erosion and damage to shoreline protection works along the Lake Erie shoreline in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County, including along the high bluff areas.
The strong sustained winds could also cause the lake levels to rise 25 to 30 cm from Rondeau to Wheatley.
As a result, flooding may be possible along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent beginning overnight through Thursday morning.
The conservation authority said the public should void the shoreline should conditions become rough.
