Local residents are being asked to lace up their shoes for an annual fundraiser to support end-of-life care in Chatham-Kent.
The Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation has announced that the Hike for Hospice at Mud Creek Trail in Chatham will take place on May 7. Those registered can also choose to complete the hike on their own between May 1-6.
Before the hike, participants are encouraged to gather pledges that will be donated to the Chatham-Kent Hospice to help ensure families can be provided compassionate end-of-life care at no cost.
“We spent our final days with my mother Louane at Chatham-Kent Hospice,” said local resident Katie Holmes. “Hospice provided us with the opportunity to be a family again. The support, love and care the nurses and staff provided my mom and our family was beyond anything we have ever experienced.”
Holmes took part in the Hike for Hospice in 2021 and said it was a personal gift to her mother.
“I no longer have the opportunity to spoil her with gifts on holidays or special occasions, so this is my gift to her and a way to express my love and appreciation,” she said.
Participants of all abilities are encouraged to participate in the Hike for Hospice to show support for hospice families.
