An investigation has been launched into human remains uncovered in Dover Township.

The discovery was made by an excavating company working on Grand River Line between Winterline Road and Crow Road shortly before 10 o’clock Thursday morning.

Chatham-Kent Police secured the scene and the Forensic Unit took pictures and collected the bones. All evidence was then sent to the Office of the Chief Coroner for further examination.

Authorities say preliminary investigation suggests the bones were of historic nature and deposited many years ago, and there is no concern for public safety in connection to this discovery.

The matter has been turned over to the Office of the Chief Coroner.
