Hitting the Trail in Support of Veterans

Local police officers will be helping to support Canadian veterans and first responders this week and are hoping to inspire others to join the cause.

This Saturday marks the Rucksack March for Remembrance, raising awareness and funds for those fighting mental health and service-related battles.

A Chatham-Kent Police Service team will be strapping on weighted packs for a 22 kilometre trek.

Officials say each year, too many soldiers, officers, firefighters, and paramedics are lost to illness, injury, and suicide. Proceeds from the Rucksack March go directly to Wounded Warriors Canada, a national mental health service provider for trauma exposed professionals and their families.

The march gets underway at 9:30 Saturday morning at Kingston Park in Chatham.
